Gema searching for birds at first light this morning.
My hunting partner's Chuck and Gema, joined me today for my 2012 Duck Season opener. The season started this past Saturday, but today was my first opportunity to get out.
Chuck and Gema with some of our birds.
We ended our day at noon, one short of a full limit. The bag was mostly mallards, but we also had pintails, teal and shovelers working into our decoys.
On our way home, we stopped at another one of my duck shoots and found it contained 50 plus mallards, teal and pintail feeding on wild millet and sudan grass in the flooded pond. The weather was very mild with a little fog. Once our weather starts getting nasty, our season is really gonna take off. Alberta is full of fat birds just waiting for cold weather to push them down.
Sounds like a great time. I've been out Chukar hunting and it's tough this time, the birds just want to run until the first frost.
